The Ultimate Treasure quest 1: The Jewel of Peru review and giveaway

The Ultimate Treasure Quest 1: The Jewel of Peru

What if your parents had disappeared and while looking on your fathers ship you found a magical box? You find out you're the chosen sailor who is the only one who can open it. Would you set sail following the map inside? That's exactly what 12 year old Christoper does, hoping it will lead him to his missing parents. Along with a group of orphans and his guardian Alistar they set sail looking for the Ultimate treasure on a journey that will change their lives.

My review

Being the mother of a lot of kids I read books for all different age groups. I often find many of the books written for middle schoolers to be focused on their social life inside and outside of school. There are a number of adventure books, but those tend to only draw in kids who are into that type of genre. I can honestly say The Ultimate Treasure Quest 1: The Jewel of Peru will draw in kids who love many different things. History, geology, the environment, and even pirates are all covered in this book.

The characters were endearing and easy to bond with. I had to put myself in my daughters shoes as I read it and was like I could be friends with all of these kids. They all brought something to the table that moved the story along and teaches kids without them realizing they've been taught anything. Like when Chang is trying to figure out what the stone is in the coin. Aquamarine happens to be my birthstone, but I never knew the facts about it I learned in this book. This is probably one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading that teaches so much in such an enjoyable manner. Way to go on that one Mrs. Skretting. Not too many authors have the ability to blend facts and enjoyment all into one book. The lead Character Christopher at first does come across as a spoiled rich kid, but soon the reader sees his courage and falls in love with him and his friends.

The other thing I loved about this book was the forward time travel. It's not often you see a book that takes you from past to present and this one does so perfectly. It is essential to learning facts about Peru, but again written in a way the facts become an exciting part of the story line.

This book kept me hook from start to finish. I didn't want it to end! I will sit and wait for part 2 to come out anxiously. My 11 year old is presently reading this and I can't wait to hear her thoughts on it. I can tell from the smile on her face as I watch her read that she's enjoying it!

I received a copy of this book free for review. My opinions are my own.
